Frozen spinach recalled in 19 states for listeria concerns
Sprouts Farmers Market, of Phoenix, is recalling conventional and organic spinach after concerns of listeria.
In a report Monday, the Food and Drug Administration said the food chain is recalling the following product:
Sprouts Frozen Cut Leaf Spinach, 16-ounce bag , UPC 87487500982, Lot 19031203A03 , USE BY 12/03/21.
Sprouts Frozen Organic Cut Leaf Spinach, 16-ounce bag, UPC 87487500991, Lot 19031203A03 , USE BY 12/03/21.
The spinach was distributed in 19 states that include Arizona, California, and Nevada.
” Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, ” FDA said.
To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection to the recalled spinach, according to the FDA.
All affected products have been removed from Sprouts’ retail stores.
An internal investigation is underway with National Frozen Foods to ensure all food safety standards.
