Ex-teacher pleads guilty to sexual contact with student
A former elementary school teacher in the Phoenix area has been convicted of sexually abusing a 13-year-old student.
Brittany Zamora, 28, pleaded guilty Monday to charges of sexual conduct with a minor, attempted molestation and public sexual indecency.
The victim told authorities that the former teacher of Las Brisas Academy in Goodyear sent him nude photos after they started messaging each other in a classroom chat group, according to court documents.
She then had multiple sexual encounters with the sixth-grade student in the classroom and in her car, according to the documents. Some physical contact occurred during class while other students were watching a video, the documents say.
She was arrested in March 2018 after the parents discovered text messages between her and the child. Zamora and her husband had called the boy’s father, pleading for him not to call police, the father told authorities.
Zamora was previously charged with eight counts of sexual misconduct with a minor.
Zamora is scheduled to be sentenced on July 12.
The boy’s parents filed a lawsuit in January against Zamora, her husband and the school district, seeking $2.5 million in damages.
