15 undocumented immigrants rescued by Yuma Sector Border Patrol
Yuma Sector Border Patrol rescued 15 undocumented immigrants in three separate incidents in the last two days.
According to Customs and Border Protection, the first incident happened Sunday afternoon. Agents were contacted by a man who reported that he and two others were lost in the desert, somewhere south of the Foothills.
Agents tracked the caller’s location near Fortuna Mine where they rescued three undocumented immigrants from Mexico. Once they received medical aid by Border Patrol, they were transported to a nearby hospital for heat-related illnesses.
The second incident took place early Monday morning when Yuma Station agents patrolling along the Colorado River near County 16th Street found a group of four undocumented immigrants from Central America. Authorities discovered that one was an unconscious young girl. A second adult woman in the group also asked for medical attention due to chest pains. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Also on Monday morning, Yuma Station agents found a group of eight near County 10th Street near the Colorado River. An agent also noticed an adult man, carrying a young child, who had jumped into the Salinity Canal.
The two had trouble and could not get out of the canal. This led agents to deploy a rescue disc and agents managed to pull the father and daughter out to safety.
The man and his three-year-old daughter were not harmed and did not require medical care.
All eight people in the group were determined to be undocumented immigrants from Central America and were taken into custody. They were transported to the Yuma Border Patrol Station where they will be processed for immigration violations.
As an Excessive Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Yuma area until Thursday, Yuma Sector continues to allocate the resources necessary to make rescues. Most Border Patrol agents are trained first responders and there are also several certified as EMT’s and paramedics.
