Pet Talk: Meet Tinsley and Rosco

For this week’s pet talk, we meet two shy pets with sweet hearts of gold.

Both are up for adoption at the Humane Society of Yuma.

First is Tinsley the tortoise coated feline.

Tinsley is about two years old and has a special quality…she is a polydactyl cat!

Most cats have 18 toes, five on their front paws and four on their back ones to be exact, but some cats have a few extras, known as polydactyl cats.

A few more digits may not seem fascinating, but there’s more to these many-toed cats than meets the eye.

It’s passed down through a dominant gene, if one parent is polydactyl and the other has the normal number of toes, then 40 percent to 50 percent of their kittens will also have extra toes.

Though a funny quality, it makes Tinsley no less cute.

She does well in a home with dogs but must be the only cat in the home.

And then there’s Rosco .

Rosco is a 7-year-old pitbull terrier mix.

Though his breed may have a bad reputation, under all that muscle is a heart of gold.

Rosco is a very mellow pup who would make a great movie watching buddy.

He is on the older side, so would be perfect for a person who just wants to have a lap companion.

These dogs are extremely intelligent and learn commands and tricks with ease.

They have a zest for life and love to be involved in everything going on around them.

They maintain a puppyish demeanor well into adulthood, and that vitality makes them a joy to live with.

Both pets are available for adoption at the Humane Society of Yuma.

The shelter is now open seven days per week.

Their hours are:

Monday – Friday: 10 A.M. – 6 P.M.

Saturday’s: 10 A.M. — 5 P.M.

Sunday’s: 12 P.M. — 4 P.M.

Because Rosco has been at the shelter for more than 30 days, he is eligible for 50% off his adoption fee as part of the lonely hearts campaign
