Local man crowned ‘Donut King’

When you come into contact with Somerton native Cisco Osuna the first thing you notice is his stature; Osuna is tall and like many keeps his hair out of sight. But, all you need to do is speak to him to find that he’s a down to earth and friendly person. Osuna is no stranger to food, he works in the food industry.

Osuna who is well-known around Yuma County for his activity in the car community has received a boost in popularity. His popularity grew when he began competing in local eating contests; the first of which was the City of Somerton’s Tamale Festival where he destroyed his competition and finished the contest by dedicating his win to his home town.

Later, during the United Dreams Car Club Under the Desert Stars School Supply Drive, Osuna sat in at their annual jalapeno eating contest. Imagine a full plate, seeds and all; Osuna was in game mode as he devoured close to a dozen jalapenos and kept going long after his competitors threw in the towel. Skip for forward Osuna receives yet another title; as Yuma’s Donut King.

June 7th, is National Donut Day and communities around the world celebrate the delicious pastry; here at home local staple Goldsboro Bakery has been hosting a donut eating contest to pay homage to the sweet treat as well as raise money for a worthy cause. Money from the event goes to Yuma Kids Cuddle Kits which help children in distress by providing them with basic necessities.

Head Baker Bobby Goldsboro is very proud of their donuts hinting that their larger than most and admit that a plate full of them can be intimidating. Contenders pay a ten dollar entry fee and have to clear their plate. Osuna, can only be described as being motivated and focused as he devoured the mountain of glazed donuts. In the end Osuna is crowned Yuma’s Donut King and wins a hundred dollars in prize money. The only question is; will anyone challenge him?
