Authorities say 3 arrested in fentanyl bust at Arizona mall

Three people have been arrested on drug charges in a Phoenix suburb where they are accused of taking part in a drug deal involving fentanyl pills.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were conducting an investigation at the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe when they saw Roberto Yescas and Edwin Veliz-Flores , both 40, exchange a large bag in the parking lot.

Authorities say the men tried to flee when detectives approached to make arrests, with Yescas jumping into a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Ines Acosta. All three were taken into custody a short time later.

Sheriff’s officials say detectives seized about 14,000 pills believed to contain the powerful opioid fentanyl. The drugs’ estimated street value was $154,000.
