Traffic stop leads to arrest, hard drugs and weapons seized
Over the weekend, the San Luis Police Department arrested a man in a traffic stop that resulted in the discovery of hard drugs and weapons.
Twenty-six-year-old, Angel Leon-Camberos , was arrested on suspicion of carrying 527 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of $7.2 million, 14.88 pounds of high grade marijuana, and numerous wax (marijuana extract), and products with an approximate street value of $103,930, one AR-15 style rifle, one magazine, packaging materials, multiple cell phones, and $15,295 in cash in a targeted enforcement action lead by Homeland Security Investigations, officers said.
SLPD said officers stopped Leon-Camberos who was speeding heading westbound on Juan Sanchez Boulevard before approaching 10th Avenue in San Luis.
Based on the quantity of seized contraband and the arrest, HSI agents were contacted to continue the investigation. Based on the findings during the traffic stop and a subsequent investigation conducted by HSI special agents, a state search warrant was secured and executed at Leon-Camberos ‘ home near Amarely Avenue that resulted in the additional seizure of 432.22 lbs. of methamphetamine, one AR-15 style rifle and one magazine, 14.88 lbs. of marijuana to include THC vape pens and approximately $15,295 in cash.
Officers said the defendant was charged with multiple Arizona state drug charges including importation/transportation of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons, and possession of narcotics for sale.
HSI special agents were assisted by detectives with the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force ( YCNTF ) and officers with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations assigned to the HSI Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST), as well as the San Luis Police Department.
Leon-Camberos ‘ is being held on a total bond of $900,000 at the Yuma County Detention Center.
