Somerton votes to raise utility rates for the first time in decades

Residents in Somerton for the first in decades can expect higher utility rates after the city voted to raise water and wastewater rates during Tuesday nights city council meeting.

The wastewater base rate will increase by $6.97, according to The City of Somerton and go into effect next month.

The newly approved water base rate, which includes 5,000 gallons , is $13.70 and $2.85 per 1,000 gallons . Therefore, the overall Wastewater base charge will be $43.47.

Previously resident’s w ater base rates including 5,000 gallons , was $11.50 and $2.39 per 1,000 gallons making the base charge $36.50.
