Residential burglaries in the city of San Luis

The San Luis Police Department is prompting residents to be on alert for burglars in the area, especially during the summer months when most people are out on vacation.

In the last five years, police have seen a steady decline in home break-ins. In 2019, the department has already seen 14 home break-ins, Chief Jessup said the agency is on track to beat 2018 numbers which were 43 home burglaries.

Proximity to the border and how fast the city is growing plays a huge role in why these crimes occur.

” There are new residents in town and buildings that it lends the opportunity on both sides of the border to commit those kinds of crime, ” said Chief Jessup .

Authorities said about 5 to 10 percent of those cases get solved.
