Crossroads Mission donations decrease in the summer
When summer rolls around, the population in Yuma decreases and several local businesses close their doors.
However, there is one place that stays open 24/7, no matter how hot the weather is.
The Crossroads Mission has been a staple in the Yuma community since 1959, thanks to the year-round donations and contributions from the public and organizations.
But throughout the summer, the mission struggles to bring in as many donations compared to the rest of the year.
Crossroads Mission community affairs director, Barbara Rochester, told News 11, ” Cash [donations] decrease [in the summer], so we’re struggling hard. What Crossroads Mission needs desperately is washers and dryers, and we’ve been saving money up to purchase them, but they’re so expensive. ”
Without the generous assistance from winter visitors and the extreme heat preventing fundraising events, it’ll be tough for Crossroads Mission to raise the $13,000 necessary for new laundry machines.
Yet somehow they still find a way to do their 50 loads of laundry each day.
Even if that means going to the laundromat so that their clients will have clean sheets, blankets, and towels.
Rochester said the only way Crossroads Mission makes it through their struggles is because the community has never given up.
So, if any businesses or locals would like to make monetary donations to help Crossroads Mission reach their goal, please contact them at 928-580-4482.
