Car thefts on the rise in the city of San Luis

Car thefts in the City of San Luis have increased over the last five years, that’s according to the chief of police.

According to the police department, about 165 cars have been stolen this year alone. The proximity to the border plays a major role in why these thefts occur.

” We went from 103 stolen cars, 5-years ago to 156 this past 2018 so you’re looking at an increase of every single year of at least 5 percent, ” said Chief Jessup .

Chief Jessup said public parking lots are hot spots for these crimes and those cars that are seen stolen often are Ford trucks, Hondas and Jeeps.

” Vin numbers get changed, license plates get changed, they’re used down in Mexico by the cartels and organized crime, ” said Chief Jessup .

Chief Jessup said only about three percent of the cases ever get solved.
