Pet Talk: Kitten season

For this week’s Pet Talk, we are featuring not just one, not two, but over one hundred kittens that are in need of adoption and fostering.

These animals are up for adoption at the Humane Society of Yuma.

These are only a few of the over 100 kittens that need a home at the shelter.

Black, white, orange and all of the above, each one only gets cuter and more rambunctious than the next.

Right in the middle of kitten season, the shelter needs your help to get these cats into a loving home.

Kitten season usually starts early spring, peaks in summer, and ends in the fall.

The reason the shelter has such an influx is because of so many cats in the community not spayed or neutered.

There are ways that you can help the Humane Society of Yuma.

If you have a cat that gets out, you can have them spayed or neutered if they are not all ready.

According to the Humane Society, if you see any young kittens do not touch or move them, mother cats often leave for hours at a time to search for food or new shelter.

The mother might also be scared by your presence and keeping kittens with their mother is the best chance at survival.

Other ways to help the shelter include, donating kitten food specifically Fancy Feast Kitten Tender Turkey Feast and newborn kitten nursing bottles.

The shelter can always also use new toys for the kittens.

The shelter is also in need of the help of active and ready fosters for the incoming litters.

There will be a Kitten Foster Meeting and Training on the April 10th, 6:00 PM at the main shelter conference room.

This event is open to the public, to both new and existing foster volunteers.
