Actor says make your dreams come true where you’re at
Brawley native and professional actor Anthony De La Cruz said you don’t need Hollywood anymore to accomplish your dreams – make your film where you’re at.
” With today’s age and technology, you don’t have to worry about that anymore, go anywhere else. You don’t even have to have the best equipment, ” De La Cruz said.
He’ s currently appearing in a Netflix show about the reputed Mexican drug lord El Chapo and a Lifetime feature film, among a growing body of film work.
” Go make a film. Go compose a song or make your album. Whatever it is, technology allows you to do it now from where you’re at, ” De La Cruz said.
Growing up locally, he was just like any other teenager.
“Partying on the weekends, hanging out in the desert, going to Lake Havasu during spring break and San Diego during my summers,” De La Cruz said.
He said that without today’s technology, back then he felt trapped.
” So naturally you want to gravitate to something bigger and better. And a lot of times is having to leave this environment and going somewhere else, ” De La Cruz said.
He broke into acting by accident – an infomercial gone wrong.
” I got that infomercial and they wanted to film my band. A member of the band decided not to show up because he felt it was more for me than the band, ” De La Cruz said.
Not giving up, he auditioned for acting roles.
” Then I landed a short film, and then I landed a feature film. And then I kind of started snowballing from there, really kind of giving it serious thought. Hey, maybe I can do this, ” De La Cruz said.
He recently finished filming with a Chinese director, but he’s not allowed to give details on that project yet.
” Currently you can see me on Netflix on drug lord’s El Chapo story. I make a quick appearance there as his driver. Lifetime movie network film that I’m in called Turbulence where I’m a detective, ” De La Cruz said.
He encourages others to follow their dreams right where they’re at and to be ready to work hard for them.
” It’s like you go into business for yourself, like any business owner. You gotta keep drumming up that business and get that income or more work actually, ” De La Cruz said.
