Two people airlifted to hospital after multiple car collision

The El Centro Police Department says one of the drivers rear-ended one of the vehicles causing a chain reaction of events.

A man driving a Nissan Armada lost control of his vehicle and rolled over into a canal.

Police say people passing by got down to help the man out of the canal.

“One was a vehicle that had rolled over on scene, the second one is a vehicle that was partially submerged within a drain ditch, there was also a third vehicle involved,” said ECPD commander Ray Bonillas .

“The occupant of the vehicle in the drainage ditch and the occupant of the vehicle that rolled over were transported by Air Reach Medical Services,” Bonillas said.

A total of four injuries were reported.

Police say the two drivers taken to the hospital by helicopter had serious injuries.

Two people in the third car involved were taken to the El Centro Medical Center with minor injuries.

Maria Castellon lives near the train tracks on Eighth street.

She says she has always been fearful of that road.

“Thirty years I’ve lived here and it’s the same danger as always,” said Castellon .

“It was a horrible scene, helicopters just kept coming, I wish they would lower the speed limit on this street, because it is extremely dangerous,” said Castellon .

Castellon says the railroad tracks on that road have always been a danger zone in the past, but police say the tracks were not a factor in this incident.

The collision happened south of the railroad tracks just a few feet away.

The El Centro Police Department says speed was definitely a factor in the crash, but they are still investigating the incident.
