One juvenile in custody after a series of vehicle burglaries

Somerton police are warning the community after a series of 12 car burglaries and two stolen vehicles since Monday.

One juvenile is now in custody but Somerton police (SPD) are still following possible leads.

Police said several valuables were stolen as a result of the burglaries including three guns and several electronics.

The break-ins have been happening on the southeast side of Somerton in the neighborhood near Tierra del Sol Elementary.

Interim Chief of Police, Araceli Juarez, is now telling residents to lock their cars.

“To park in well-lit areas, to not leave any valuables inside in plain sight and never leave any of their vehicles unattended when they’re on,” said Interim Chief Juarez.

SPD said most of the vehicles targeted have been left unlocked.

If you have any information on this series of car crimes, call the Somerton Police Department at (928) 627-2011.
