Yuma man allegedly accused of attempted murder

The man accused of following his former girlfriend and her current lover, crashing into them and then firing shots made his initial appearance in court Tuesday.

Randy Munoz, 23, is facing six felony charges including first-degree attempted murder with domestic violence.

Munoz’s brother, Steven Munoz, and a long-time neighbor, who did not identify herself, spoke at Tuesday’s appearance.

His brother described Munoz as a hardworking man and acknowledged his brother’s actions in the courtroom.

“Everyone knows what he did was wrong. All I can say is, other people kind of were asking for it,” said Steven Munoz.

Munoz’s neighbor said she’s never seen Munoz out of character and was always nice to his children. She also mentioned problems did not start happening until Claudia Douglas, the mother of Munoz’s children, started seeing Justin Williams over the last two to three years.

Both Douglas and Williams are in critical condition in a Phoenix hospital. Billy Williams, the brother of Justin, shared with KYMA details about their condition after the shooting.

“He lost his eye completely,” said Billy. “They had to remove it and sew the lid shut. He sent me a picture of himself and he looks pretty bad. For Claudia, she had some brain damage and had some blood bleeding from her head.”

The initial investigation revealed an F-150 white truck rammed into a Jeep Cherokee near the I-8 Frontage Road and Fortuna Road in Yuma, according to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office. The area where Munoz is accused of shooting both the driver, Justin Williams, and the passenger, Claudia Douglas in the vehicle.

YCSO has since deemed the case to now be domestic violence.

Munoz’s bond has been set at $250,000 and he is set to appear in Yuma Justice Court December 12.
