Two vehicle accident causes injuries
In a press release sent out by Somerton Cocopah Fire Department, on Saturday, May 25, the Somerton Cocopah Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at W. County 14th and S. Somerton Avenue.
Upon arrival, a gray sedan and a small white pickup were in the center of the intersection.
Officials say both vehicles had significant damage and all airbags in the gray sedan had deployed due to the force of the impact.
The gray sedan had a male, his wife, and 3-year-old daughter , who was in a car seat.
The white pickup was driven by an older male and his wife.
Fire Chief Paul De Anda says the gray sedan was southbound on Somerton Avenue when the westbound pickup truck failed to stop at the intersection.
According to the driver of the gray sedan, he attempted to swerve to avoid the accident, but the white pickup struck the front end of the sedan.
The white pickup then spun and the two vehicles impacted once more.
The female passenger in the white pickup truck was complaining of neck and back pain as well as the female passenger of the gray sedan.
The press release stated the driver of the gray sedan stated that he had pain to both of his knees and some difficulty breathing due to the gas powder from the airbags.
The female from the white pickup was transported by one Somerton Cocopah Fire Department Ambulance and the female in the gray car was transported by a second Somerton Cocopah Fire Department Ambulance.
The male driver and his three-year-old daughter were transported by a San Luis Fire Department Ambulance.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this accident.
