CHS students arrested after massive brawl

Calexico High School students engaged in a brawl that resulted in several apprehensions by Calexico police.

The fight happened on Monday during lunchtime.

Police say the fight initiated at Crummett Park and continued to neighboring streets.

Videos uploaded to social media show at least 20 students fighting on the front lawn of a house on the corner of Blair and Ethel Street.

The owner of the house was home when it happened, she says she was shocked by the scene and went back inside where it was safe.

Students jumped on her car and air conditioner unit, damaging her property.

“Kids need to realize your allowed to congregate , but when you’re committing acts, getting into fights, you’re committing a criminal act,” said Sgt. Armando Orozco, Calexico Police Department.

Rosa Fregozo says she was appalled when she saw the video online, and she worries about her daughter who will attend Calexico High School next school year.

“It’s really awful our kids could get hurt,” said Fregozo .

“I saw the police came and started arresting students, there needs to be more security during their lunchtime,” said Fregozo .

Calexico Police apprehended at least five students and are continuing to investigate the incident.

“They are getting to an age where everything they do has an impact in the long run, they need to measure what they’re doing as far the consequences,” said Orozco.

Calexico Unified School District says extra safety measures are being enforced, including additional police and administration presence on campus and in the surrounding areas.
