El Centro Public Works showcase community projects
El Centro Public Works celebrated National Public Works Week.
They held an open house today, showcasing and educating the public about the work they do for the city
The event was centered around the theme “It Starts Here”.
According to the American Public Works Association the theme represents the different facets of modern civilization that grow out of the efforts put forth by the public works professionals across the nation.
“It’s a very vital part of our community,” said Abraham Campos, director and city engineer for El Centro Public Works.
” Definitely appreciative. We all enjoy portable water, just having our city clean and well taken care of, so we can enjoy the environment a little better, ” said Sara Garcia, Imperial resident.
Public Work’s crews demonstrated projects that are currently being worked on in El Centro as well as future plans they have for the city.
“Right now we’re doing all of our downtown parking lots, we’re revitalizing Bucklin Park in the city of El Centro, so it’s a lot of projects, and we thank the community for their patience as we continue to improve our area,” said Campos.
A highlight of the event was their new addition to the public works team an IBAK pipe and sewer inspection camera.
” It’s a new camera system that we got, to video sewer mains. We record the condition of the sewer mains, after we clean them, and we see the condition after and before, ” said Roy Cano , employee at El Centro Public Works.
“It’s going to be a very good asset because it was long overdue, we had an older system that was a lot smaller and outdated so it’s a very updated system now,” said Cano .
Campos hopes this event inspires kids about the different career paths available in Public Works.
El Centro Public Works consists of 67 employees that continually work to make El Centro a better place to live.
