Free summer meal programs for students

The Crane School District is offering a summer free meal program to students and the community, this program started 60 years ago and began at Gary A. Knox Elementary School three-years ago.

In the summer days Director of Nutrition, Michael Clark, said that each day they give out about three-thousand meals.

“Last year we did see a 30 percent increase in our participation,” said Clark.

Clark said that this job can be both heartbreaking and rewarding at the same time but nonetheless said that programs like these make a difference.

“A young child came up to me while I visited the cafeterias and said thank you for my wonderful lunch because I haven’t been able to eat since last Friday,” said Clark.

The program begins at the end of June and goes until the end of July.
