ECPD on the lookout for hit and run suspect

El Centro police are still on the lookout for a hit-and-run suspect that they believe left a cyclist in the hospital.

Earlier Monday morning, police responded to a hit-and-run on the intersection of 3rd Street and Ross Avenue.

Commander Aaron Reel, of the El Centro Police Department, said the driver of the vehicle failed to obey the rules of the road.

“It’s a fairly major thoroughfare for our city. The vehicle in question was traveling northbound on 3rd street, failed to stop for the stop sign. And collided with the bicyclist,” Reel said.

First responders arrived on the scene and gave the cyclist medical attention.

“The pedestrian was injured. He suffered some injuries to both legs. He was transported medically to the hospital by ambulance,” said Reel.

Police said the driver fled the scene of the accident and now they’re asking the community for help.

Reel added, “Gray Lexus, that’s all the information as far as the vehicle itself. The driver is described as a white female adult. The vehicle should have collision damage to the front grille, bumper, hood area. ”

Victor Castro, who rides a bike to exercise, said he was almost hit by a car just before he stopped to speak to News 11.

“A few minutes ago by the shopping center right there, this guy almost got me and the bicycle,” Castro said.

Castro hopes drivers can keep an eye out for cyclists.

“Because it’s too fast you hit somebody. And if you go on the bicycle you don’t have time to protect yourself. The car is over you already,” said Castro.

Anyone who has any information regarding the hit and run driver can contact the El Centro police.
