CBP seize $1.2 million in drugs at Port of San Luis

U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested three people on separate incidents for an alleged attempt to smuggle 194 pounds of methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine through the Port of San Luis.

On Friday, May 3, officers referred a 23-year-old a Yuma resident for additional inspection of his Honda Sedan as he attempted to enter the U.S. Agents say a canine alerted to a scent coming from the vehicle’s doors and quarters panels. A search led to the discovery of 80 packages of meth weighing 86 pounds, and worth $259,000.

On Saturday, May 4, officers referred a 20-year-old Mesa woman for a further search of her Honda Sedan and she attempted to enter the U.S. A canine alerted to a scent in the trunk as well as the rear quarter panels. Agents say 70 packages of drugs were removed, 2 pounds of fentanyl, worth $21,000 and 23 pounds of meth, worth $70,000.

Agents say that evening; a 30-year-old Mexican female was referred for further inspection of her Honda van when she attempted to enter the U.S. A canine alerted officers to a scent throughout her van where 60 packages of drugs were hidden.

According to agents, the drugs were identified as 55 pounds of meth, worth $164,000, 26 pounds of cocaine, worth $620,000, and 2 pounds of heroin, worth $68,000.

Officers seized the drugs and the vehicles, while the subjects were arrested and then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
