Deputy Mayor: Wilkinson assisting City of Yuma for smooth transition

Community members are questioning why former City Administrator Greg Wilkinson has been at City Hall after his retirement request was accepted by the Yuma City Council Friday.

Deputy Mayor Gary Knight acknowledged that Wilkinson has been at City Hall, but said Wilkinson is not employed by the City. “He does not work for the city. He did agree to give a hand in those projects he was working on prior to his retirement,” said Knight.

Knight explained that there is some information Wilkinson must pass along for a smooth transition.

Interim City Administrator Jay Simonton was in attendance during Tuesday night’s city council work session.

Wilkinson announced his retirement last Thursday amid controversy surrounding the Yuma Police Department awards.

His resignation was accepted Friday during a special city council meeting.
