U.S. Border Patrol begins fingerprinting migrant children
U.S. Border Patrol has begun fingerprinting some migrant children.
It’s a shift from prior policy and comes as the number of family members illegally crossing the southern border has reached record numbers.
Agency officials said Border Patrol issued guidance several weeks ago to allow the fingerprinting of children under 14-years-old.
The agency said it is being done in the Yuma Sector, in California, and on a case-by-case basis in the Rio Grande Valley region of Texas.
Senior agency officials said it’s due to increased concern about fraud and trafficking.
