DPS: Possible wrong-way driver dies in crash
Editor’s Note: The Arizona Department of Public Safety earlier reported the wrong-way driver was traveling in the Toyota Prius. The department sent a correction stating the wrong-way driver was driving a Hyundai Veloster.
One person is dead and another is in serious condition following a two-vehicle collision involving a possible wrong-way driver on westbound Interstate 8 near Dateland Wednesday afternoon, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Witnesses told authorities that a Hyundai Veloster was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes when the collision occurred.
The wrong-way driver, who drove a Hyundai Veloster, died at the scene, DPS confirmed.
The individual, who was driving the Toyota Prius, was flown to a Phoenix-area hospital with serious injuries.
According to DPS, the right lane on westbound Interstate 8 is open but the left lane remains closed.
