Residents in the Imperial Valley celebrate Easter
Easter is a widely celebrated holiday across the globe.
News 11 spoke to a few residents on how they’re spending their Easter.
Hundreds of members filled the chapel of the Valley Christian Church in Imperial for Easter service.
Juan Benito, who serves as the church’s youth pastor said Easter is for many Christians a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
“Today’s an opportunity for us to come together to share and joy in the resurrection of our Jesus Christ. And also to understand that he died for us,” said Benito.
For the church, it’s also an opportunity to create family moments.
Benito said, “For us to reach out to families and do a fun activity for the children and for the families to come together.”
The holiday is also a chance for volunteers at the Holtville American Legion Auxiliary Unit 138 to bring the Easter spirit to veterans at a local assisted living facility for seniors.
Kim Vincent, President of the American Legion Auxiliary said, “We created Easter baskets and wrapped them up. We brought them here to about 8 veterans who served in all different wars. We had some George’s pizza.”
For veteran Ron Hennessey, it’s a great feeling knowing that they haven’t been forgotten.
“It was a blessing and the kindness out of their hearts. They did it you know. We didn’t ask for it. We appreciated it and still do,” said Hennessey.
