Suspect allegedly tries to rape teen daughter of brother’s girlfriend
A Calexico man is behind bars for allegedly trying to rape the teen daughter of his brother’s girlfriend.
Police arrested 58-year-old Juan Francisco Munoz on Sunday morning. They said Munoz somehow managed to get the young girl by herself and allegedly assaulted her.
Officer Sean Acuna said, “When officers arrived on scene, they encountered the suspect in the backyard of the residence where it was reported that he held a sixteen-year-old female victim against her will.”
The victim and mother were visiting for the weekend. Munoz lives with his brother on C.N. Perry Avenue in Calexico.
“The mother of the victim is in a dating relationship with the suspect’s brother,” Acuna said.
The victim and mother called 911 to report the alleged crime.
“The investigation was conducted and revealed that the suspect had attempted to rape this female and had performed other sex crimes involving a minor. There were some injuries to her groin area,” Acuna said.
Munoz is being charged with attempted statutory rape of a minor, digital penetration and false imprisonment.
Police said victims of sexual assault should never take a shower or wash their clothes after an attack. They should go to the police as they are. Authorities said they need the evidence to bring perpetrators to justice.
