The annual Special Olympics event in San Luis, Arizona

In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, the Gadsden School Districts holds it’s annual ‘Special Olympics event in San Luis, Arizona.

More than 600 students from different school take part in the march and it’s a day where the community joins together.

“It’s important to do this event because we give the opportunity for the community to recognize that we believe our students are important to us, the importance that our kids come out here to socialize and a chance for the community to meet our kids,” said Lidia Pizano, a Special Ed Teacher.

One of the students from Desert View Middle School, Aldo and his mother Angie Gutierrez take part in the event for the past 5 years. She said that it’s important for all of the students to interact.

“They also feel included with all the other kids in everything, including the activities at the Special Olympics event,” said Gutierrez.

The annual event will now take part in April for National Autism Awareness Month.
