Living by the sword; ancient teachings during modern times

Whether you’re a history buff or enjoy movies depicting life during the age of the samurai, we all can admit that they lived by a code unlike any other. A samurai’s code came with a pledge to live by or face dishonor, a fate at the time that was worse than death itself. Now, if you follow the fables you’d know that the word “Ronin” is marked for samurai’s without a lord.

Fast forward to present day and we introduce a local group who lives by a similar code; 47 Ronin Motorcycle Club Yuma instill the values shared by those warriors long ago; amongst them are a member’s loyalty, courage and compassion. Those attributes could be seen in their actions; during a warm Yuma Sunday the group pitched in to help those in need.

Yuma’s Heritage Library sits in the city’s historic district and is widely known haven from the sun for our transient population. Perfect location to reach the most people; members brought pizzas and water and a local catering truck made tacos. Hence, the club’s compassion for those in need; 47 Ronin does this routinely raising funds amongst themselves and joining other groups to help worthy causes.

Jazonte Chaffin spoke about his commitment to the club and why he decided to grow with his chapter. Chaffin a U.S. Marine wanted to continue with the values instilled in the military but broaden it serving more than his country, but his community. Along with compassion, members must also exhibit courage; the courage to be the one to step into the light and to lead when others fail to step in.

Members tell us that they hope to ignite others to help those in need and offer to help any which way they can.
