Girl critically injured after falling from vehicle on I-10

Arizona authorities are investigating how an 8-year-old girl fell from a moving vehicle before she was found critically injured on Interstate 10 in a Phoenix suburb.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says troopers found the girl a “short distance” east of her family’s location on eastbound Interstate 10 in Buckeye late Tuesday night.

The DPS said it is investigating the incident. No additional information was released and it wasn’t immediately known how the girl fell from the vehicle or whether she was struck on the highway.

Capt. Tommy Taylor of the Buckeye Fire-Medical-Rescue Department said the girl was unresponsive when she was flown to a Phoenix hospital.

Eastbound I-10 was closed briefly while the medical helicopter landed to pick up the girl.
