Law enforcement mock academy held at Calexico High School

A group of students from Calexico High School woke up earlier than their classmates for a first of its kind training.

California border patrol agents trained these 56 of these students the same way law enforcement agents are trained, giving a taste of what it is like to go through a law enforcement academy.

“My juniors and seniors are able to earn college credits while attending my class by taking the final exam and scoring a “b” or better,” says criminal justice teacher Mike Davies.

This mock academy is an extension for the students that are part of the law enforcement class on campus and can be used as credits as well as college credits at Imperial Valley College.

California border patrol agent Carlos Pitones says “Believe it or not the kids love structure; they love discipline, they like being pushed to their physical fitness limits.”

This group was selected based on their interest in law enforcement and their overall GPA.

” And then they like bragging about it. It’s a rewarding feeling for them to be able to accomplish a program like this, and they look forward to the next time, ” added Pitones .

These skills are intended to be used in the future as many of these students have plans of getting into a career in law enforcement.

Today was the last day of their week-long training, and they were awarded with pins and the traditional dunk in the pool to finish their training.
