Mexican president Lopz Obrador on economic growth in border towns

Ten-thousand people waited anxiously for the arrival of newly elected Mexican-President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in San Luis, Río Colorado. The president’s talking points were on economic growth in border towns across the region.

” This government is for the people and the community, we will make sure to continue making the best decisions for the communities, ” said Lopez Obrador .

Obrador unveiled his urban improvement program that will help residents in border towns have better living conditions beginning with promises he made since the start of his presidential campaign.

” The cost of rent has decreased 20 percent, and the percentage of taxes at the border has decreased from 16 to 8 percent, ” said Lopez Obrador .

Obrador spoke on bringing down gas prices, an ongoing issue over the years.

” Here in the border towns the gas prices have decreased, it is now five pesos which is equivalent to approximately a quarter less than those paying for gas in the center of the city, ” said Lopez Obrador .

Part of the new program will provide residents in rural areas in Mexico with clean water and a place for kids to play sports.

” We will also be building new facilities for the future of Mexico, the children, for them to learn, play sports, to get them off the streets and into the workforce, ” said Lopez Obrador .

Among the guests of honor was Senator of Sonora, Lilly Tellez . Tellez said that recent news of approval to fund the border wall is on everyone’s mind.

” It’s one of the main topics we as senators in the border states have in mind, and we do worry about this issue like in Hermosillo. There are migrants in Nogales , like here in San Luis, and it’s one we are approaching carefully, ” said Tellez .

She also added that building the wall will hurt migrant waiting to seek asylum into the United States.

” This will increase the number of migrants that are waiting at the borders, and there is an emergency to solve the issue, but we don’t have it yet, we are working to solve it, ” said Tellez .

Lopez Obrador will continue his promise visiting border towns with a visit to Tijuana, Baja California in the next few days.
