Man is stabbed, robbed of his cellphone on his way to work

A 25-year-old El Centro man was stabbed multiple times on his way to work Friday around 6 a.m. near a bus stop on Bradshaw and North Imperial Avenue.

Det. Omar Mandujano said, “The victim was in pain and there was obvious trauma to his body. The information that we have right now is multiple stabs, approximately three.”

The attacker allegedly took some valuables and fled, leaving the victim to stumble to a nearby gym to ask for help before he collapsed.

“One person or employee from Planet Fitness and another person that was near or around the area were the ones who gave us a call. Throughout our investigation, loss of property is one cellular phone.”

A person who works in the area saw the police activity.

Calexico resident Elvia Marin said, “There were just cops all over the place. I come in at seven-thirty and we were just concerned, what had happened.”

She feels safe in the area but the incident did affect her.

“Now with what happened we’re a little concerned,” Marin said.

The victim was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center where he remains in stable but serious condition.

Police are looking for a suspect or suspects at large. They ask anyone with information on this case to please contact them.
