CBP officers arrest two for allegedly smuggling drugs

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested two men on two different occasions for allegedly attempting to smuggle over 70 pounds of methamphetamine.

Customs and Border Protection said the 20-year-old man from Somerton was referred for an additional inspection of his Jeep SUV as he tried to enter the United States Thursday morning. A CBP narcotics detention canine alerted the scent from the vehicle’s roof. This led officers to discover multiple packages.

The drugs were identified as nearly 70 pounds estimated to be valued at $211,000.

Later that morning, officers at the pedestrian lane referred an 18-year-old San Luis, Arizona man for further inspection as he attempted to enter the U.S. After the officers searched the man, they discovered packages of meth duct taped around his thighs. The package of meth was valued at $6,000.

Officers seized the drugs, the vehicle, and arrested the individuals. Both were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
