Local firefighters help girl battling cancer

While the clouds darkened over the Yuma sky and droplets fell to the floor tables were being cleaned and balloons set for display. Even as the rain fell harder firefighters, volunteers and staff at a local eatery came together for one special little girl. Kate Campa sat in a booth in the center of the local Buffalo Wild Wings laughing with family and friends. She appears to be just another typical teen checking her phone while enjoying quality time with her loved ones.

Sadly, this young spirited girl has been battling cancer and since her diagnosis her family stood by her side and her community stepped in to embrace her and her family. Team Kate soon was born, a group of family and friends coming together to help Kate as she fights to live. Her social media pages show just how remarkable this young lady is with picture after picture displaying her infectious smile and flair for life. Also, you can see the bond between her and her family and the strides they’ve had to go through to make sure Kate gets the care she needs.

On Monday March 11th 2019, local firefighters, men and women who on a daily basis put themselves in harms way to protect life traded their fire repellant suits for aprons. They held a Take Over at the local Buffalo Wild Wings eatery and bussed tables, waited on customers and served drinks; all to help this little girl. Buffalo Wild Wings is no stranger to helping causes in their community and when asked Lisa Meyer Co-Owner of the popular eatery said that they don’t give it a second thought when it comes to helping those in need.

For firefighter Peter Franks of the Rural Metro Fire Department he plainly said that helping those in need, especially a child in need is what first responders do. Franks along with fellow first responders were also selling Team Kate apparel with a hundred percent of the sales going to aid the Campa family. Buffalo Wild Wings donated ten percent of sales for the day to the cause.
