Yuma Air Show kicks off Friday
The 2019 Yuma Air Show begins Friday night at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.
Hundreds of onlookers filled the hangar at MCAS Yuma to see the capabilities of military aircraft.
“We enjoy the Marine Corps presentation and the aircraft,” said Jerry, an attendee.
For others, the show is personal.
“I get to come back to my old home,” explained Jared Flora. “I was stationed at this base for 6 years.”
One of the many aircraft that attendees can learn more about is flown by the Marine Corps Search and Rescue squadron.
HM2 Max Sechler explained what it is like to conduct an actual rescue.
“An actual rescue is really rewarding, whether its a trauma patient or not, just the sense of you’re doing something positive for your community and you’re actually contributing,” said HM2 Sechler.
He explained some of the helicopter’s capabilities.
“We have technical capabilities, we have repel invoice capabilities. So, if somebody’s stranded in a deep, dark crack we can. We have the capability to go in and retrieve that person and medical capabilities,” said HM2 Sechler.
MCAS is asking the public to bring their items in clear bags for a smoother security check process.
The Air Show kicks off at 9 a.m. General admission is free to the public.
