Yuma car vandalisms on the rise

Several residents in Yuma have been waking up their car windows broken, but nothing has been stolen out of their vehicles.

“I got up to someone knocking on my door that somebody threw a brick and when I came out and I look out and there are five or six cop cars surrounding the area and one of the cops came and talked to me asking me if I had seen anything suspicious,” said Luis Garcia, a victim.

There have been 19 cases since Friday and damage is happening within an eight block radius, according to the Yuma Police Department (YPD).

The radius is located between 12th Street and 5th Avenue and 20th Street and 12th Avenue, said YPD .

The crime YPD called senseless crime.

“I mean I thought we lived in a pretty safe neighborhood, but I guess we just got to watch out a little extra careful,” said Garcia.

Police say they think someone is just taking nearby rocks and throwing them through car windows.

“We don’t have any real leads at this point at this time so we ask the public if you have anything, any of the ring doorbells or any cameras or anything and you’ve caught some suspicious people or person. Please let us know,” explained Sgt . Lori Franklin , Yuma Police Department.

YPD said there has been no damage to the body of the cars and called the crimes senseless.
