Woman hospitalized after crash in Somerton

The Somerton Cocopah Fire Department said one woman was taken to the hospital following a crash in Somerton.

Firefighters said the driver of a red Ford Bronco said a woman driving a gray Toyota sedan failed to stop, hitting the Bronco, Wednesday afternoon on County 14th Street and Somerton Avenue.

The Somerton Cocopah Fire Department was called at 3:10 pm Wednesday to respond.

Upon their arrival they found the female driver of the Toyota sitting in her vehicle with all air bags deployed and complaining of pain to her left ribcage and abdomen. The driver of the Red Bronco stated that he was uninjured.

Somerton Cocopah Paramedics extricated the female and placed her in full cervical spine immobilization. Due to the mechanism of injury and nature of her complaint, she was transported emergency traffic to YRMC for further evaluation.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
