Parents protest Gilbert school’s discipline over MAGA wear

A group of parents is protesting after they say a suburban Phoenix school unfairly disciplined students for their political views.

Around 40 people, including a few students, gathered Monday morning across the street from Perry High School in Gilbert with signs and flags saying “Make America Great Again” and other messages supportive of President Donald Trump.

The parents say their children were told to remove “MAGA” attire and banners last Friday for “USA Day” at school.

In an email to parents, Principal Dan Serrano says students were only asked to put away signage because it was causing a disruption.

When it occurred after school, a school resource officer asked the students to leave and they didn’t comply.

One parent says her child was told the “MAGA” clothing was “offensive.”
