CBP canine prevents smuggling of three Mexican nationals inside trunk

A Border Patrol canine helped prevent a smuggling attempt that involved three Mexican nationals who were hidden inside a vehicle’s trunk at the Interstate 8 Immigration Checkpoint Wednesday afternoon.

Customs and Border Protection said a Border Patrol canine alerted to a beige 2016 Chevrolet Malibu leading agents to refer the vehicle for a secondary inspection. Agents discovered three Mexican nationals, who were illegally present in the United States, were hiding in the truck with no means of escape.

Authorities also discovered that the driver, a 43-year-old man from Buckeye, was in possession of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.

CBP officials said the driver will be charged with human smuggling and the three Mexican nationals will be processed for immigration violations.
