Homeless man arrested for trying to steal a phone

Authorities arrived at the Metro PCS store in Calexico Monday night after workers said a homeless man came into the store and tried to steal a phone.

When officers approached the man, they noticed he was acting erratically.

Detective Armando Orozco, of the Calexico Police Department, said, “They were forced to subdue him and place him into handcuffs.”

Police later identified the homeless man as 29-year old Florentino Luna who could be facing charges.

“Pending the investigation, he was charged with the robbery of the business,” said Orozco.

Police said Luna had a prior criminal record.

“He also had an outstanding no-bail warrant from the county,” Orozco said.

Authorities said no one was injured in the altercation.

Orozco added, “At the time of the call nobody sought medical treatment. So paramedics were only called to look over the suspect.”

Luna is currently booked at the Imperial County Jail and set to be in court later this week.
