Film Commission: millions of dollars spent locally in productions

The Imperial County Film Commission held their first pre-Oscar Awards dinner event on Friday. They want to promote film productions in Imperial Valley.

The commission said millions of dollars are spent annually when production studios come to the valley to make feature films, commercials or music videos. They said the area has a unique appeal to some movie studios, which have spent over 16 million dollars in the last 10 years. Tonight , they tested everyone’s knowledge of Hollywood trivia and also made their Oscar winners predictions. The annual Oscars’ ceremony is scheduled to be held in Hollywood this Sunday . The one prediction they want to come true is to have more film productions made locally.

I.C. Film Commission Director Charla Teeters-Stewart said, “If we’re talking in a fiscal year, we have an average of eight to nine productions every month. And we have a long history of going back to the silent era with Hollywood. There’s many, many different films that have been shot here.”

The Imperial County Film Commission can be reached at their Facebook page.
