Low cost spaying and neutering available in Yuma

The Yuma City Council approved the use of grant funds provided by the Arizona Companion Animal Spay and Neuter Committee so that residents can pay less to spay or neuter their pets.

The Yuma Police Department received a grant , which provides $10,000 to assist with spaying and neutering of domesticated dogs and cats and $10,000 to assist with spaying and neutering of feral cats. The approval was made on Wednesday.

Through the grant, city residents are eligible to have their pet dogs or cats spayed or neutered at a reduced price through the Humane Society of Yuma. Vouchers will be issued which will cover some of the cost of the surgery.

In order to use the vouchers, the pets must receive an anti-rabies vaccine and a city l icense as part of the process. The cost of the vaccine and license must be paid by the citizen. The City of Yuma Animal Control Unit will be issuing vouchers worth $15 to $75 based on household income. Citizens should expect to pay between $20 and $125 to have their pet /s spayed or neutered.
