Local author tells her stories through a cookbook

A local author is sharing her story and memories through her cookbook ‘Memories with Recipes’ with the Yuma community.

Ruth Vandyke is a mother of seven, grandmother of 16, and boasts to her 10 great-grandsons.

Vandyke’s book ‘Memories with Recipes’ first sparked when her granddaughter asked for a specific recipe. Quicky, after finding the list of ingredients and all she would need, Ruth told her the story of how the dish came about.

Since then the granddaughter suggested that Ruth considered writing of some short, however, Ruth has been writing short stories for a number of years.

Vandyke’s blog ‘ Ruth’s Food For Thought’ is also known for daily tips in the kitchen.

The cookbook takes you through Ruth’s hometown in Butte, Montana, and captivates her story until the present day.

All of this is done through her recipes.

Vandyke hopes this is a legacy she can leave for her family.

Ruth will be holding a couple book signings around town and is inviting the community to join her.

Locations and times for the signings are:

Thursday, February 21, at Martha’s Date Farm from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and at the American Vets Association in the Foothills from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, February 22, at the Peanut Patch from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 23, at the Sun Vista Quilt SHow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, February 25, at the Yuma Venture from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
