Free local health fair

Sunset Community Health Center in collaboration with the 4th Avenue Jr. High School are celebrating the 3rd Annual Family Resource Health Fair.

The event will take place February 23 at the 4th Avenue Jr. High, located at 450 South 4th Avenue from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. This event is meant to continue raising awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s Health Centers as local solutions to community health needs.

The health fair is free and open to the general public. During this fun community event, school-aged children and their parents will receive free age-appropriate preventive health and nutrition information. There will be games, gifts, live music, activities, arts and craft, and opportunities for attendees to win grand prizes – one of which includes a brand new bike and sports equipment as an effort to promote physical activity among kids and adults.

There will be exciting activities and community resources for the whole family during the health fair. Approximately, 15 social services agencies have made commitments to participate during the event. Some of the services that will be available include YMCA, early childhood development programs, and the Loving Yourself; Self Care To Improve Emotional Wellness program.

These services form a vital assistance for families in need and create a stronger and better community. Primary and preventive medical care services information such as women’s health, cancer care, and tobacco cessation will be accessible at the event. Certified Application Counselors and Navigators will be available to answer your KidsCare, AHCCCS, medical discount program and Marketplace enrollment questions. Some of the health screenings that will be offered include, cholesterol, dental varnish and fluoride applications, glucose, bone density, body mass index, blood pressure, height and weight and much more.
