HSOY speaks out on animal cruelty in Somerton area
The Humane Society is speaking out on two dogs in two separate cases that they received in highly distressed and serious conditions from the Somerton area.
In the first case, an American Pit Bull Terrier was picked up by Cocopah Animal Control Officers and brought to the Humane Society of Yuma in late December.
The dog was in extreme distress and was obviously neglected.
The dog was emaciated, dehydrated, showed signs of pain, covered in urine and feces, eyes were swollen, bloody and had green discharge, had bed sores, impaired and labored breathing and had a fractured leg.
Upon examination by a veterinarian, injuries were estimated to be no more than three-weeks-old. Unfortunately, the decision was made that the most humane action for this dog was to be euthanized.
In the second incident, Hobo who was once adopted from the HSOY, came back into their care emaciated on Saturday, January 12.
Hobo was originally adopted out from the HSOY in November of 2016 and was a healthy, happy dog. They don’t know the full circumstances as to how or why he was at large again, but he needed their help.
The home in which Hobo is registered was found abandoned and the HSOY is thankful that he came back to them and that they can help revive him back to good health.
Hobo is up to a healthy weight and is now up for adoption. This sweet boy is in good hands and has another chance at a good life.
The HSOY take in over 8,000 animals annually.
