Border Patrol finds meth hidden in car battery

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 86 immigration c heckpoint arrested a woman suspected of smuggling methamphetamine Saturday morning, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

CBP said the incident occurred at approximately 11:51 a.m., when a 40-year-old woman driving a black 2004 Honda Accord approached the checkpoint. A Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle. Agents sent the vehicle to secondary inspection for further investigation.

While in secondary inspection, Border Patrol agents discovered one package hidden inside the vehicles battery. After the Agents examined the package, it was determined that the content was consistent with the characteristics of methamphetamine.

The total weight of the methamphetamine discovered was 16.7 pounds, with an estimated street value of $35,800.

The female driver and the narcotics were turned over to Drug Enforcement Administration.

In fiscal year 2019, El Centro Sector agents have seized more than 1,089.02 pounds of methamphetamine, amounting to over $2.5 million.
