Tax Tip Tuesday: filing ends April 15

The tax filing season is now open and people have until April 15 to file their taxes.

Typically all you need is your W2 but for others who wait on multiple documents, there is an extension option according to Brian Watson a Special Agent with the IRS.

“You can file a tax return yourself, you can go to a paid return preparer, about 55 percent of people go to a paid return preparer,” said Brian Watson a Special Agent with the IRS. “These people are specialist they can be CPA’s they could be attorneys.”

However filling your taxes electronically is the safest way to do it, agent Watson said.

If you are in need of help IRS.gov has all the tools and resources that help anyone through the process. Watson said last year the website drew two billion visitors.
