Family Dry Cleaners in Yuma closing its doors

The Family Dry Cleaners located on Catalina Drive in Yuma has closed its doors due to a land lease, according to an employee.

The business called their customers telling them to pick up their clothes and many did. However, those who showed up on Friday found a lock on the door and no one inside to give them their belongings.

“Whatever the matters are between the owners and the merchants. That’s not our problem. We want our clothes,” said Jason Padilla, a customer .

Another customer claimed he had $150 worth of clothing inside and had been calling the property manager’s lawyer since 8 a.m. Friday for answers.

The manager of the two locations claimed it was a shock to him to hear the stores would be closing.

“You’ve got to understand one thing, we’ve got beautiful customers and they do not deserve this. I, myself, tried to keep the store open. That was on my own but the Christ and Associate people they denied it so,” said Luis Pompa, Yuma Dry Cleaners manager.

Pompa explained that the customers are not the only ones affected.

“I feel terrible for all the employees,” said Pompa. “There’s 17 families without a job right now.”

He said he plans to open his own dry cleaning business to help those employees since the Family Dry Cleaners does not plan to re-open.

The location on 16th and Avenue B will also be closing.

Employees at the second location said they will be informing clients when their items have arrived, but there is no definite date on when that will be.
