Video: Inmate holds prison librarian hostage

The Arizona Department of Corrections released footage of a hostage situation that took place at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis/Rast Unit.

The ADC said the situation took place on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at around 8:15 a.m.

Inmate Timothy Monk took a male library employee hostage using a prison-made blade-type weapon in demand to leave the complex, according to the ADC.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., TSU personnel deployed a device into the library and were able to apprehend the inmate and secure the safety of the employee, according to the ADC.

“Protecting the safety and welfare of our employees is paramount,” said ADC Director Charles L. Ryan. “We are grateful this was resolved safely and quickly. Our team acted with great professionalism to bring about the best possible outcome, ensuring that our employee was unharmed.”
